Together we can protect the future for our children

After many years of disposable diapers, cloth diapering is becoming popular once again. Parents are beginning to realize the huge benefits of cloth over disposables. Before the introduction of disposables in the 1950’s, cloth was the main source of diapering. Recently cloth diapers have been revolutionized. At Storky’s we provide the latest in cloth diapering technology, bringing you cloth diapers that are as easy to use as disposables, but without the harmful chemicals, hefty bills or the huge environmental footprint.

Our environment

Our common sense tells us that cloth diapers are the ultimate in recycling because they are used again and again, not entering a landfill until they are nothing but rags.

Did you know that disposable diapers are the third largest single consumer item in landfills?

Over 4,000,000 disposable diapers are discarded per day in Canada alone.

Disposable diapers are one of the most insidious 'convenience products' clogging our landfill sites – accounting for up to 2.5% of all residential landfill - and it is said they will take  500 + years to decompose.

In North America it takes a billion trees to produce disposable diapers each year and in Canada we throw out 1.7 billion of them annually.

The manufacture and use of disposable amounts to 2.3 times more water wasted than cloth. Disposable diapers also use twenty times more raw materials, like crude oil and wood pulp.

By using cloth diapers you will prevent approximately 5000 - 7000 diapers, per child from going to the landfill for 500 years. Contact us now to start your service.

Cloth diapers are the healthiest option for your baby's skin, reducing or even preventing a diaper rash. They are softer feeling for your baby. We at Storky`s truly believe if your baby could talk they would choose luscious soft bamboo over chemically induced paper.

Disposable diapers contain many harmful ingredients, including:

Dioxin, an extremely toxic by-product of the paper-bleaching process. It is a carcinogenic chemical, listed by the EPA as the most toxic of all cancer-linked chemicals.

Tributyl-tin, a toxic pollutant known to cause hormonal problems in humans and animals.

Sodium polyacrylate, a type of super absorbent polymer, which becomes a gel-like substance when wet. A similar substance had been used in super-absorbency tampons until the early 1980s when it was revealed that the material increased the risk of toxic shock syndrome.

Dyes found in some disposables that are known to damage the central nervous system, kidneys and liver.

Fragrances in some disposables that cause headaches, dizziness, and rashes, according to reports received by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

The interior of disposable diapers do not breathe well, therefore they can be at a much higher temperature. This increases the risk of diaper rash as heat and moisture provide an excellent medium for bacterial growth.

Additionally, the Archives of Disease in Childhood published research in May 2000 showing that scrotal temperature is increased in boys wearing disposable diapers, and that prolonged use of disposable diapers will blunt or completely abolish the physiological testicular cooling mechanism important for normal spermatogenesis.

By using cloth diapers, you are protecting your child from the health risks associated with disposables. For more information on the harmful chemicals used in disposables please visit our source at: Real Diaper Association - Diaper Facts page (opens in a new window)
